Baixa da Agulha or Needle's Seamount is situated at Desertas islands nature reserve, it is one of the last refuges of the sea lion (monacus-monacus) and a vital nesting centre for seabirds. These Islands are located about 12 nautical miles from Ponta de São Lourenço (Madeira Island).
The access is only made by boat, but prior authorisation must be obtained from the Madeira Natural Park Service.
The biodiversity found here is incredibly rich, with excellent visibility and allows you to dive up to 60 meters of depth!
It´s a mountain that goes from 3mts to 60mts deep. You can find rolled stones going down and walls, at a depth from 25mts down there are small caves and beautiful corals, some times we can have current, mild one and for this reason, is an excellent place to observe big fish.
