Baixa da Cruz, or Cross Seamount, is located in Machico bay, opposite 3 Marias, less than 100 meters from the coast. It starts at 3 meters deep, with a small peak, and widens in
depth until it reaches the sandy bottom, at 35 meters. Here, we can observe at a privileged location, the black coral that exists in large quantities from 20/25 meters deep. If we want to explore the place in your fullness, we will see the coral density black increasing with depth.
Fouling anemones are also frequent.
On the sandy bottom, we usually find rays, of large dimensions. Although black coral is undoubtedly the main attraction for anyone visiting Baixa
da Cruz, it is advisable to pay attention to the column of water during the dive, as there are the possibility of passing schools pelagic fish, such as weevils.
