Located in central Portugal, 86 miles northeast of Lisbon, the Cabeça Gorda (translated from Portuguese: Fat Head) on the Zezere River provides a good alternative for diving when the weather doesn’t allow you to sea dive or if you just want to train.
Fat Head (translated from the Portuguese Cabeça Gorda) is close to Aldeia do Mato. Here: 39°34'09.3"N 8°16'13.8"W.
Located on the South Margin of the river, this spot is normally searched by technical divers for equipment checks and winter dives. It descends rapidly to 100mts. Also, it has a nice parking spot right next to the water. This beautiful spot is normally very quiet, even in the summer.
You can expect a huge thermocline from the water, quickly descending from 14º to 20º degrees until the 10mts, then quickly decreasing to around 3º to 4º degrees on the bottom.
