The English steamer Highland Hope, belonging to the Nelson Line company, was a 14,000-ton ship that ran aground on the cliffs of Farilhão Grande, north of Berlengas, in an area known as Bailadeira, with 550 people on board.
On the night of November 19, 1930, just 1 year after its construction, the Highland Hope, due to the dense fog that was felt, ran aground on those islets, and it was not possible to remove it, so it would be lost.
Of the 550 people on board, there were no casualties to be recorded, mainly due to the prompt assistance of the Peniche boats, most of the fishing vessels. All the ship's occupants were transported to Peniche where they were provided with clothing, food and shelter.
Given the location, it is only possible to dive when the sea conditions are very good which makes the dive low in difficulty. Near the French steamboat Henri Mori sank in 1931.
Here we can observe schools of fish as well as crustaceous, and many more species that seek shelter among the wreck pieces.
