The Armação de Pêra reef is the largest natural reef in Portugal and is estimated to be over 25,000 years old.Once part of the original Algarve coastline, it is believed to be home to 70% of the coast's indigenous species. Forty-five of these species were only recently discovered in Portugal and, incredibly, 12 of them worldwide.
The reef's incredible biodiversity has led to an effort to classify it as a Marine Protected Area, helping to promote natural conservation and a sustainable future for the local fishing community.
Along the reef we have pretty amazing dive spots, this one is called Limão.
