The Madeirense shipwreck, resting peacefully on the ocean floor, offers a glimpse into maritime history. Divers can expect to encounter the haunting remnants of this once majestic vessel, now adorned with colorful coral growth and teeming with marine life. Amidst the rusted hull, schools of fish dart playfully, while curious moray eels peek out from hidden crevices, creating a captivating underwater tableau. The cargo ship "Madeirense" lies about a mile away from the coast and about 34mts below the surface, it sank in October 2000. The ship, which was part of Madeira's maritime transport system, awaits for you a few meters deep. It has become a real artificial reef where you can move in and out of the ship's cabins, surrounded by thousands of fish. Here we can find marine spiders crabs, anemones and all kinds of marine life. There are also reefs off the coast nearby and even an archaeological dive site where you can see ancient cannons. It is a unique diving spot of great peace, where the sunshine filters in through the transparent and turquoise waters to highlight the dazzling underwater world that surrounds the beautiful island of Madeira.
